Regina M. - Ukraine, 2011- 2013

“Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing.” ― Thérèse de Lisieux

Hello! My name is Regina Marie MacMurtrie. I am 18 years old and I live in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my loving and humor-filled family consisting of my mom and dad, brother and two sisters, my grandmother, and two cats. This past June I graduated from high school. Over the past several years I tried to figure out what direction my life should take. I was a gymnast for eleven years and I can honestly say that gymnastics helped me become the person I am today. Gymnastics is one of my passions and it is one of the things that makes me happy. I also enjoy reading, singing, speaking in an array of various accents, pretending I can dance, laughing with my magnificent and totally lovable family, and having intellectual conversations about faith with my beautiful youth group friends.

In August 2011 I attended World Youth Day with my youth group in Madrid, Spain. It was an exciting and inspiring opportunity to share my faith with two million young people from all over the world. I went to Madrid with plans for my future in the back of my mind: graduate from high school and attend college. I came home, however, with God’s plan for me on my heart: serving His people for a year.

I spent my senior year trying to find a suitable missionary organization but kept hitting dead ends. God and I played a continuous game of “Do You Trust Me?” It was not until May that I stumbled across Heart’s Home online. Though I had no real convictions about it, I liked the service done by Heart’s Home and even more, the people involved. After the “Come and See Weekend” everything fell into place and I found Heart’s Home was yet another thing that made me happy. And there was God, whispering in my ear, “See? I told you that you could trust Me.” And now here I am: 18 years old and about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime with God, Mary our Mother, and my girl, St. Thérèse; she especially has always inspired me.

Beginning in October of 2012 I will be living in L’viv, Ukraine. The next 14 months will be filled with Love, Compassion, Openness, so much Learning and, of course, Trust.
