Mayra G. - Brazil, 2014-2015

I was born in Ecuador and lived there until I was 14 years old before I moved to Chicago. I was raised by a loving and strong mother and a very hard working dad. I have a younger sister and brother with whom I have been blessed to share a passion for the evangelization of the youth. Coming to the U.S. was not an easy transition to make, but now that I look back, I can see God’s undeniable presence in every step we took and I can be reassured that he will keep guiding me and my family as I embark in a new mission this coming August in Brazil.

I have dedicated most of my life to serving God through the evangelization of the Hispanic Youth in my Archdiocese, Chicago. And thanks to this time of service I have come to experience God’s love in many different ways; He is alive, He is with me, and He needs me, all of me. I cannot be more grateful to have met people that have inspired me to follow Christ and prove to me again and again that His love is the only thing that can make us truly happy and give our life a purpose.

Besides serving in the Youth and Young Adult Ministry, I currently work as a System Administrator/Technician, and although I really enjoy my job, I know that I could not go any longer with this great desire in my heart, a desire to serve God not only with my time, but with all of me. Heart’s Home fits perfectly with this desire as I have seen how a loving presence can make a huge impact on a kid’s life, a sick or a lonely person. Many of our society’s most serious problems are rooted in lack of love and understanding. Having the opportunity to be part of this network of God’s presence and compassion is truly a blessing. I’m really excited to see what He has in store for me and for every person that I will encounter in Brazil, and I hope that you can join me as well through your prayers and support.

"To those who suffer, God does not provide arguments which explain everything; rather, his response is that of an accompanying presence, a history of goodness which touches every story of suffering and opens up a ray of light. In Christ, God himself wishes to share this path with us and to offer us his gaze so that we might see the light within it. Christ is the one who, having endured suffering, is "the pioneer and perfecter of our faith” Pope Francis- Lumen Fidei
