My name is Katherine. I grew up in San Diego, CA with the most loving, laughter-filled family I could imagine. I am 21 years old and a recent graduate of Gonzaga University with a degree in Philosophy. I also minored in Classical Civilizations and Catholic Studies. I have been a dancer most of my life, I love singing in the car, I enjoy hiking, running, and sailing, and I dearly miss Oxford, England where I studied two of my favorite writers, C.S. Lewis and Shakespeare, for half of my junior year.
When I was in High School my youth minister gave me a cross for my Confirmation. The engraving in the center of this simple white cross reads: “Live a life of love” (Eph. 5:2). While I struggle daily, this is the life I try to lead, the life which Christ demonstrated, the life to which He calls each of us, and the life to which I believe He is calling me through Heart’s Home.
The further I get in life, and especially the further I go in philosophy, the more complex life seems. I seem to find more and more questions and fewer and fewer answers, and I am starting to discover, or perhaps re-discover, that this is the point. There is only one answer: Jesus Christ. No matter how many questions I ask, each one has its fulfillment in Him alone. Life, no matter how complex it can become or appear, really is quite simple, and our approach to life should be just as simple as the words that St. Paul spoke to the Ephesians: Live a life of love.
I am very excited to be going on a mission in the fall with Heart’s Home to Ecuador to do just that – to simplify my life and focus wholly on the love I receive from the Father, follow the example of the Son, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, love each of God’s children the way the Father intended.
