In the beginning of January 2010, Fr. Thierry de Roucy joined Fr. Gonzague Leroux on the West Coast. The goal was to promote Heart’s Home through several conferences in the West Coast, and to prepare a spiritual retreat which will be taking place in Hawaii during the coming summer.
Last month, Father Thierry de Roucy joined me in San Francisco. Right at the beginning of his trip, we flew to Molokai in Hawaii. Last October Saint Damien of Molokai was canonized in Rome. He is the patron of the Fraternity of priests within Heart’s Home called Sacerdotal Molokai Fraternity, and so to celebrate his canonization we wanted to visit and pray where he lived. We will also took the chance to study his letters and his spirituality in depth.
Back in the Bay Area, we had three conferences in Oakland, San Francisco and Redwood City on “Living with a Compassionate Heart”. We were touched by the warm welcome we received and the attention the audience paid our message. We also shared our desire to open a Heart’s Home in the Silicon Valley. We met friends and American families during our time there, and we understood how much such a charism of love and presence is needed.
Father Thierry flew back to New York at the end of the month when I started a new semester at the GTU (Graduate Theological Union) in Berkeley. This entire trip reinforced in me the desire to start a Heart’s Home in the Bay. The challenge remains but I have in my heart the words of the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation: “For nothing is impossible with God” (Lk 1:37). God works with our prayer and with people so I continue, while studying, to speak about this project and to meet people. Please pray for it.
