No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body...
Christ has no body now on earth but yours."
This quote has been an inspiration for me especially in the past few years while I’ve been attending the University of Notre Dame. I transferred to Notre Dame from Central Michigan University, and the transition could sometimes be difficult. I was living in a dorm where I didn’t know anyone, and I was often in situations where I felt left out and lonely. This quote continually inspired me, however, to be Christ in my dorm and my classes, to my roommates, and in my friendships. While it was certainly uncomfortable at times, opening myself up and being a friend to those around me helped me create lasting relationships, and I hope I encouraged my peers to be a comforting, healing presence to everyone in their lives as well.
Feeling called by God to spend some time doing service before heading to law school, last fall, I started researching organizations that I could volunteer with. I was excited to learn about Heart’s Home, because its unique mission would allow me to continue the mission I have adopted in my own life—to be Christ and His compassion to everyone I encounter. I graduated from Notre Dame in May and this fall, I plan on living out this mission in Deva, Romania. I would love to share in this wonderful adventure with you! Through your support and prayers, we can be Christ’s presence in this broken world together. For truly, “Christ has no body now on earth but ours.”
