Christina C. - from Massachussetts to Romania

Hello everyone,

My name is Christina and I am 18 years old and the second oldest of six children. I grew up in Massachusetts and just graduated from high school. Two years ago, I went on a mission trip to Kingston, Jamaica. I worked with the Missionaries of the Poor in their homeless shelters and orphanages. Every morning we drove through the city in the back of a truck and rode through the miserable streets. My heart broke to see the people, some very elderly, some just infants, living uncared for in the trash. These were the people who were not fortunate enough to make it into a shelter. They had been forgotten, denied human dignity, and were not viewed as worthy of love. The magnitude of their needs was overwhelming, but the call to serve them was one I could not ignore.

This year I was looking for long term mission work when I heard about Heart’s Home. The simplicity and wholeness of their mission to serve was what ultimately drew me in. I am so excited to be joining them in Deva, Romania for 12 months. To be surrounded by those who are not concerned with the standards set by society, but rather with their own ability to love as Christ loved, overflows my heart with joy and hope.
