Brooklyn: An American Family Reunion!

by Cecile Fourmeaux

From June 22nd-25th, over thirty friends joined us from all across the United States for our annual American Heart’s Home Family Reunion. We spent the weekend in a retreat house providentially discovered not far away in Brooklyn. Our theme came from the feast we celebrated over the weekend: John the Baptist. “Behold I prepare the way of the Lord.”

Amidst the many activities, including a trip to the Atlantic ocean, guided visits of historic Brooklyn, a Brazilian fiesta for São João (John the Baptist), and amazing moments of Eucharistic Adoration and Confession, we discovered just how much we belong to each other – whether former missionaries or their families, old friends from Brooklyn or new friends from the other side of the country. And the family is growing!

A few highlights from those who were there: “Heart’s Home is really my home away from home.” (Carmen, a Honduran member of the Maximillian Kolbe Fraternity living in Florida)

“I rediscovered the joy of serving others.” (Jessica, former missionary in Senegal)
