Beside the most lonely in the US

Heart’s Home started in the US in November 2003, with the founding of a first Missionary house in the Bronx, NY. Rev. Thierry de Roucy followed the intuition of Mother Teresa according to which New York was the city in greatest need of Compassion. On April 2008, Heart’s Home moved from the Bronx to Brooklyn, in Fort Greene Area.

The loneliness in the neighborhood is great and so is the need for a compassionate presence. Accordingly, our Heart’s Home John Paul II received a very warm welcome from local organizations and from people of the neighborhood. This loving presence is complementary to many social services. We therefore put in contact those in need with the local organizations that provide the corresponding help and services.

Each member of the community lives this Mission in accordance with his/her personal skills and gifts:

  • We visit homebound, elderly, disabled, sick people and women in shelter
  • We organize events aimed at the most lonely (retreats for main catholic feasts or parties for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year’s Eve, Mother’s day…)
  • For the teenagers of our neighborhood, Heart’s Home runs every sunday a youth group program. We spend the day with them, sharing with them cultural, sport and social activities. At the end of the day, we often share discussion times, so that through both activities and reflection, Heart’s Home friendship with them may be truly educative.
  • We offer our services to local centers: the Bishop Mugavero Nursinghome, the Atlantis Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility Center, a HeartShare Residence for disabled. Heart’s Home USA is also involved in after-school programs.

Closer to Manhattan than it used to be in the Bronx, the new location in Brooklyn enables Heart’s Home reach out to new friends and bridge the gap between people from different backgrounds.

Among others, our relationship with artists has especially increased. We are convinced of the importance of their mission in the society. Artists and artpieces enlighten and enrich our message of love and compassion. Heart’s Home also seeks to answer to their quest for a meaning through art discussions, art seminars, jazz event…

We invite you to share this spirit of Compassion by taking part in various activities, just contact us!

In January 2009, we launched the project of a Missionary house in California, this project is led by Fr. Gonzague Leroux.
