From April 17 to April 19 a Re-Entry Weekend was held in our Brooklyn Center. Alumnae Brittany Koepke shares a few thoughts about her experience participating in it.
“After 14 months on mission in Ecuador, I couldn’t be more appreciative that my first stop in the States was in Brooklyn, NY-the place where it all began. The last time I saw Jennifer Gary was during our Heart’s Home mission formation together. But we have both returned from mission now and were able to share our experiences (in Ecuador and the Ukraine) with one another. That was a true gift for me. And I went to mass and the Ukrainian icon exhibit with familiar faces, friends of Heart’s Home, that I had met some 18 months before.
Getting to reunite with my Heart’s Home family in the States made the transition coming home much smoother. I got to spend 5 days with people who have all been on mission with Heart’s Home, who have all lived something similar to what I had in Ecuador, and many of whom have decided to dedicate their whole life to the mission of compassion. We each play our role within the family -priests, sisters, lay consecrates, frat members, and volunteers. What struck me the most in my 5 days in Brooklyn is that I will always have a Heart’s Home family. We will always have that something common and understood between us. And that binds us together even though we may be physically apart.”
