A Breathtaking One-Day Spiritual Journey

Sakina Boukhaima, who attended the last retreat preached by Heart’s Home founder, Fr. Thierry de Roucy, at the retreat facility in upstate New York, shares her experience:

“Though I did not know exactly what to expect, I was full of expectations on my way to the Heart’s Home Center in the Catskills. And I can tell you right now that I was not disappointed at all. Only two hours after we left Manhattan, we found ourselves driving along a small scenic road with a few farms displayed here and there.

We were very warmly welcomed by the community who had taken care of everything for the organization of the day. Believe it or not, we started with some music and dance by watching a DVD of John Neumeier’s choreography: Matthew’s Passion by J.S Bach. It was breathtaking and it worked, bringing us deeply and directly into the heart of the subject. It was followed by the Good Shepperd teaching in the Gospel of St John. I would have never known how rich and meaningful this very simple text was. It gave words to some deep and silent feelings that I had deep inside me. Our spiritual journey continued with a time of Adoration that took place in the small and lovely chapel located within the house. Eventually, the day ended with an informal talk related to the Mystery of the agony of Jesus Christ.

This spiritual day would not have been so complete without the help of some down-to-earth elements that have to be mentioned here: the delicious meal cooked (with lots of love, I am sure) by the two sisters, the warm atmosphere of the house and the beautiful landscapes which we admired while having a walk outside after lunch.

Throughout this whole wonderful day, during which some new friendships were born, I was spiritually and culinarily pampered.”
