On December 9th, Thomas Billot, former volunteer in Colombia and seminarian for Heart’s Home, was ordained a deacon in Santiago, Chile, by the Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago, Monsignor Pedro Mario Ossando Buljevic.
As it was in the southern hemisphere, the academic year just finished in time to enter the summer break. The sky was blue and it was warmer than 85 degrees. This festive day was an opportunity to gather more than 300 friends of Heart’s Home in a warm atmosphere as if it were a family reunion with people from very diverse backgrounds. Each one was present because of his friendship with Thomas and his love for the Heart’s Home Movement. Ultimately, Christ united each person in communion. He was the profound reason of their coming to support Thomas on this important step for his life.
The Mass was held in the chapel of the Catholic University where Thomas has studied theology for the past three years. The liturgy was beautifully prepared with the collaboration of a few instruments and a choir that gave a solemn character to the event, inviting the congregation into a true experience of beauty manifesting the Presence of Christ.
In the parish hall, following the Mass, there was a reception - a natural prolongation of the liturgy. It required the preparation of both Heart’s Home Centers in Chile, located in Valparaiso and Santiago, and the help of some neighborhood kids, who were delighted to offer this service to their friend Deacon Thomas. And finally, for our entertainment, four students forming a music band played and sang a nice range of folk music from Chile and South America.
In a few months, Deacon Thomas is going to serve the Church in Cuba where we recently opened a Heart’s Home Center.
