By Sister Françoise–Thérèse, Servant of God’s Presence in El Salvador
“Today, more than ever, I, (name), want to give witness of my love for Christ and make it present by committing myself to the Fraternity of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, within Heart’s Home.” Thus started the commitment formula that 14 of our Salvadorian friends pronounced on January 26 in our chapel María Madre de Misericordia.
The Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity is one of the branches of our movement that allows lay people to live our charism in their own families, in their workplaces and in all that makes part of their daily lives, with the aim of spreading around them a culture of compassion in the world.
Our Frat Max Salvador, as we call it, is a lively reality: single people, couples and children meet every 15 days for a time of study and sharing around a text and a good meal. Once a month, each member is called to live an apostolic time in the neighborhood where the Heart’s Home Faustino Perez is located, or by visiting a Center for Disabled Children or a Nursing Home. They also share an annual retreat, which is an important moment to be nourished and to celebrate the blessings of living in communion with each other.
It was in a spirit of reverence and fervor, that this past January 26th our friends pronounced their commitment, accompanied by the Heart’s Home teams from Honduras and El Salvador, the Servants of God’s Presence and some other friends gathered in our chapel. Deep emotion could be read upon their faces; The same emotion - I dare say - the disciples must have felt when, upon hearing Christ’s voice, they felt their hearts burn out of the desire to follow the Lamb.
